Quality policy

The Department of Tourism Management in collaboration with the Quality Assurance Unit and the competent services of the University of Patras has harmonized the quality policy of the Postgraduate Programme of Studies “Tourism Business & Destination Management” with the quality policy of the Department and the University of Patras.

Vision / Mission of the Department of Tourism Management

The vision and mission of the Department of Tourism Management is the promotion of tourism management and the provision of high quality undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral studies, which ensure the excellent scientific training of graduates and contribute to their professional careers in the tourism sector, for the benefit of the economy and society.

The scope of the Program

The Postgraduate Programme “Tourism Destination and Business Management” of the Department of Tourism Management aims to provide high quality postgraduate studies and the development of high quality research in the management of tourism destinations, tourism organizations and businesses. The Postgraduate Programme provides specialisation in the following fields:

  • Tourist Destinations Administration
  • Tourism Business Administration

Based on the intended learning outcomes of the Postagraduate Programme in terms of knowledge and skills, students who successfully complete the programme have:

  1. specialized training knowledge (education) for (a) modern theoretical approaches in Tourism Destination Management and Business Administration, (b) the findings of modern research in the fields of Tourism Destination Management and Tourism Business Administration, (c) the design and implementation of viable and sustainable tourism development strategies, (d) the design and implementation of research in tourism and (e) managers of tourism businesses, organizations and institutions in the public and private sector, nationally and internationally, (f) managers of tourism businesses, organizations and institutions in the public and private sector, and (g) managers of tourism businesses, organizations and institutions in the public and private sector, nationally and internationally, (h) managers of tourism businesses, organizations and institutions in the public and private sector, nationally and internationally, (i) managers of tourism businesses, organizations and institutions in the public and private sector, nationally and internationally.
  2. skills for (a) the integration of information technologies in order to improve the environmental, economic, social and cultural sustainability of tourism destinations and organisations; (b) the application of scientific management methods and practices for the production, distribution and promotion of tourism products and services; (c) the development of specific and appropriate forms of tourism; (d) appropriate decision-making based on new trends in the international tourism environment,
  3. horizontal skills such as critical thinking and reflection, using, extending and adapting knowledge to new situations, decision-making, cooperation and respect for diversity and multiculturalism.

The strategic objectives of the Postagraduate Programme are linked to those of the Department and the University of Patras and are the following:

  • providing high quality education with an interdisciplinary approach and an emphasis on student-centred learning,
  • continuous enhancement of the programme,
  • producing high quality research based on international developments,
  • linking the programme with the labour market, scientific institutions and tourism policy and development bodies at national and regional level
  • linking the programme with doctoral studies,
  • connection of the programme with its alumni,
  • strengthening the extroversion of the programme, and
  • strengthening administrative support and infrastructure, giving priority to student care.

The quality assurance procedures described in the Institution’s Quality Manual are implemented at the level of the Department with the required specialization for the case of the programme. All annual quality assurance activities of the Department of Tourism Management, and by extension of the Postgraduate Programme are carried out by the Department’s Internal Evaluation Team in collaboration with the Quality Assurance Unit of the Foundation.
